Council denies Circle K signage variance, citing precedent and hardship standards

Several council members responded that variances are intended for unusual hardship and warned that granting the request could set a precedent for other nearby gas stations seeking similar exceptions. The motion to deny passed 5–1; Councilmember Gary Ates was recorded as the sole vote in favor of granting the variance.
The denial means Circle K must comply with existing sign-size and height regulations or seek other permitted options consistent with the city’s ordinance.
