Monroe board approves consent agenda and human-resources transfer; members press administration on rising transport and tuition costs

At the Monroe School District board meeting, members approved the consent agenda and later approved a human-resources budget transfer to reallocate funds from substitute-teacher lines to an intern line.

The motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Dennis and seconded by Jerry; the board voted unanimously. Later, the board approved the human-resources budget transfer (mover: Christine; second: Dennis), again by unanimous vote.

During routine business, board members raised budget concerns. One member asked directly, "Is transportation sustainable?" Administration responded, "Is it sustainable this year? Yes," but said transportation and tuition costs — particularly special-education transport and excess tuition for placements — are putting pressure on the budget. Superintendent Joe reported an "excess cost" tuition deficit in the fund-activity statement and said some lines (disposal services and software renewals) are tracking negative; department leads indicated they would prefer to draw from other lines or wait until spring before proposing transfers.

On retirements, administration listed multiple upcoming retirements across the district and said celebrations are planned at the June board meeting and end-of-year events. The board acknowledged the retirees and wished them well.
