Commission asks legal review after county contract reportedly failed to deliver services

The chair raised concerns about an existing wildlife services contract and asked the county attorney and county manager to investigate whether the contractor has failed to provide contracted field services. "It's apparent to me that our wildlife services contract... they have not had anyone able to perform the duties that we enter into contract with them because they don't have anybody," the chair said, requesting legal review and possible remedies.
The chair said funds for the contract are drawn from a combination of a Taylor ranching agreement and a small portion supplemented by the county general fund and emphasized concern about taxpayers' money not being used to deliver services. "I don't feel comfortable that we're putting money into this and not... the citizens in Grant County aren't getting the services that are required or that are needed in the county," the chair said.
Commissioner Stevens recommended formally inviting wildlife services to present to the commission and noted that if a field officer is unavailable a supervisor could attend. The chair asked County Manager Charlene and legal counsel, identified in the record as Mr. Young, to reach out to the contractor, review contractual remedies, and return to the commission with options, including reimbursement or contract termination. No formal action to terminate the contract was taken at the meeting; the item was referred for investigation.
