Grant County detention center reports rising transports and plans monthly incident tracking

"On 12/29/2025, our population was 87 detainees with 72 males and 15 females," the detention center official reported, and said the facility recorded 79 intakes and 83 releases in December with an average daily population of 91 (highest 98, lowest 82). The center said it will begin tracking hospital transports and suicide watches on a monthly basis and provide those reports to the commission because of an observed increase in those incidents over the past six months.
Staff also discussed recruitment: openings in administration and officer ranks were being tested and interviewed, and the facility was scheduling a laundry and PLC-control upgrade. The manager noted upcoming legislative-session work and encouraged commissioners to coordinate on reimbursement and support items for Santa Fe.
The detention official described coordination with state programs (LIES pilot) and said the state indicated it could provide funding up to $60,000 to support a records/court-coordination position for RISE jails if the county participates.
Commissioners asked how the commission could support jail needs at the legislative session; staff agreed to provide requested statistics in preparation for the session.
No formal action on staffing or contracts was recorded in the work session segments; commissioners and staff discussed support for legislative advocacy and data requests in advance of the session.
