Committee backs donations to fund Keene assistant planner for sustainability

The finance, organization and personnel committee of the Keene City Council voted unanimously to recommend that the city manager be authorized to accept donor contributions of $25,000 per year for three consecutive years to partially fund an assistant planner position with a sustainability emphasis.
Paul Andress, Community Development, told the committee the city council recently approved the position in the budget and staff now seeks permission to accept outside donations to close a remaining funding gap. "This request is to allow us to ... accept the donations that have been put forward to ... fill the funding gap for this position for three years," Andress said.
A committee member moved to "recommend that the city manager be authorized to do all things necessary to accept a donation of $25,000 per year in aggregate for three years beginning in the fiscal year 2026 to 27 from various donors and that the money is allocated to fund a portion of the annual salary of the assistant planner/sustainability position in the Community Development Department," and the motion carried without opposition.
Next steps: staff will proceed under the committee's recommendation and the city manager will be authorized to accept and allocate the donations; any formal acceptance will follow usual administrative procedures and be reflected in future budget documents.
