Concord Cultural Council readies grants outreach: posters, press and approvals for public art

Council members at the March 19 meeting reviewed plans to publicize the Cultural District grants and reported several approvals for public art installations.
Barbara Ewen said the grants press release has been sent to The Concord Bridge and Living Concord, and Laurie O’Neill sent the announcement to the Concord Patch. The council agreed to print a publicity poster designed by Mimi Graney and to post copies in Concord Center and West Concord; Graney said she would print the posters, Laurie O’Neill will distribute them in Concord Center and Hilary Taylor will cover West Concord. Members asked Graney to change poster wording from saying projects must be “free of charge” to using the word “preferred.”
Anita Tekle and Mimi Graney updated the grant application so the same form will be used for enhancement and new-project applicants; enhancement applicants may skip questions 4–6. Tekle said she will circulate the updated forms to last year’s six enhancement applicants and provide a list of those applicants to the council. Zimmerman said updated applications had already been sent to Pianos on the Town and OARs and that she would forward a copy to Ed Bernard.
Zimmerman reported that Pianos on the Town installations have been approved pending final piano designs and locations. She also said that decals in a pride rainbow design were approved by the HDC to appear on Main Street for one month. Chair Rogers noted that older HDC requirements need to be rewritten to reflect current projects. Ronni Olitsky urged members to email grant news to their personal contacts, and Rogers suggested creating a council mailing list. Barbara Ewen volunteered to draft a Letter to the Editor for The Concord Bridge and will send it to Chair Rogers, who will submit it under his name.
Members confirmed event dates for spring and noted Wright Tavern can accommodate 40 people, which will limit guest attendance at the May gathering. Tekle raised a future policy issue to prevent applicants from receiving duplicate funding from both Cultural District Grants and Cultural Council Grants.
