Everett Public Schools reports strong graduation totals, outlines summer supports

Dr. Saltzman, superintendent of Everett Public Schools, opened the board’s June 23 meeting by congratulating the class of 2026 and noting roughly 1,300 students walked across the stage this year. He also said more than 260 scholarships worth in excess of $800,000 were awarded to graduates.
The board then heard a detailed graduation update from Dr. Willard, who reported 1,292 graduates during the recent commencement series and provided school-by-school counts: Cascade 390, Everett High 334, Jackson 523 and Sequoia 45. Dr. Willard said 16 students will continue in transition programs and several additional students may graduate over the summer through reengagement programs.
The presentation explained how students meet diploma requirements through multiple pathways. Dr. Willard said the district is moving its High School & Beyond Plan platform from Naviance to SchooLinks and reiterated that students can satisfy requirements via Advanced Placement, Career and Technical Education sequences, dual-credit options, state assessments, performance-based portfolios and other pathways.
Board members asked about the Graduation Alliance and teacher-residency pathways. Dr. Willard said Graduation Alliance allows year-round enrollment and credit recovery beginning July 6; he described outreach to students who are behind on credits and the district’s Everett Reengagement Academy as options for students to complete diplomas during summer months.
Dr. Willard also described summer supports including multilingual-learner and special-education extended-year programs, online summer academy courses and the Everett Career Link internships. He said the district will hold a summer commencement on Aug. 13 for students who finish coursework over the summer.
The board’s discussion emphasized the district’s multiple pathways and outreach efforts rather than a single route to graduation. The update closed with directors thanking staff and recognizing the district’s transition-program graduates.
