Pleasant Hill commission recommends 2026–27 CIP priorities, including splash pad design and sports-facility study

The commission prioritized several projects intended to guide park investments over the next five years. Staff highlighted a 3,500 ft² splash pad design proposal for Hickory Glen Park, noting that having a design in hand would improve competitiveness for grants. Other recommended priorities included trail crossing safety improvements (specifically the Hawk trail crossing at NE 56th St and RFBB treatments at smaller trail intersections), a feasibility study for an indoor sports facility, upgrades to the Youth Center’s technology and electrical systems, and final placement of a Meacham Park shelter/restroom where water and sewer connections were already installed in an earlier phase.
Commission staff also outlined related items such as a proposed parking expansion and fencing at Hickory Glen to prevent vehicle intrusion on playfields, Conservation Corps-assisted trail development at Hickory Glen (including a bridge connection to a future dog-park corner), and an annual equipment/vehicle maintenance line that would cover items such as a blower attachment for snow and leaf removal.
Why it matters: the recommended priorities set the department’s funding and grant-seeking focus for the coming fiscal cycle and give city council a commissioner-endorsed list to consider during the budget process.
Votes at a glance: LOREN LOWN moved to recommend approval of the 2026–2027 Capital Improvement Budget; VICKI STODDEN seconded. Vote: Ayes — unanimous (Commissioners Tim Ives, Loren Lown, Vicki Stodden, Chairperson Matthew Will). Motion carried.
The commission also approved routine meeting items earlier in the session, including the meeting agenda and the Dec. 11, 2025 minutes (both unanimous), and adjourned at 7:10 p.m. The commission set its next regular meeting for March 12, 2026 at 6:00 p.m.
