Nicholls Middle School Principal Dr Heather Tucker presented a school improvement plan focused on making PLC time and advisory blocks part of the schedule, teaching executive‑function skills to students, expanding PBIS and mentor programs, and creating a program of studies to help families understand course sequences.
Tucker described schedule changes that provide staff with two 53‑minute PLC sessions in a six‑day cycle and carve out advisory blocks for explicit instruction on organization, time management and social skills. "We bought a paper agenda for every single student," she said, explaining advisory will include checking agendas and teaching students how to manage assignments and Aspen entries.
The middle school also plans to refine tiered interventions, use Panorama survey data to measure belonging and social‑emotional indicators, and hold a parent information night on October 29 to explain topics such as internet safety, discipline and Title I services. Tucker said the school will continue to build family partnerships and volunteer training opportunities.
Committee members praised the proposed program of studies and discussed how it could align with the high school’s Vision of the Graduate to create a K–12 trajectory for students.
