Bethany summer camp reports near-100 enrollment; staff tweak operations

Bethany Parks and Recreation staff told the commission the summer camp that began this week is running smoothly and has nearly reached the program’s early target.
According to meeting discussion, the program has about 98 enrolled children (approximately 37 registered for before care and 59 for after care). Staff said initial demand may require adding a few more staff members and that the first-week workload is heavy but stabilizes as routines form. Leaders described a weekly newsletter with photos sent to families on Fridays, new camper and staff shirts (staff purple, campers blue), and a student leadership (CIT) program that is piloting a snack-shack operation that has been generating roughly $74 per day in sales.
Upcoming activities flagged for parents and volunteers include a July 17 carnival, an Aug. 4 last-day picnic, CIT leadership and CPR training at the firehouse on Aug. 8–9, and a tentative leadership/kayaking outing later in August if an instructor can be secured. Staff asked for volunteer help on the carnival date and said specialty weeks may fill as more families add weeks to registrations.
The commission urged staff to finalize communications and continue monitoring enrollment and staffing; no formal policy change or vote was recorded for operations during this meeting.
