Sterling Board accepts two resignations and approves several staff contracts after executive session

At its May 21 meeting, the Sterling Board of Education accepted the resignations of two teachers and later approved several employee contracts following an executive session.

Trustees accepted, with regret, the resignation of Corrine Lewis, Special Education teacher, and the resignation of Bethanie Johnson, sixth-grade teacher. Dorothy Capobianco moved to accept Corrine Lewis’s resignation; Victoria Robinson-Lewis seconded. Victoria Robinson-Lewis moved to accept Bethanie Johnson’s resignation; John Brady seconded. Both motions were recorded as "All in favor."

Later in the meeting the board voted to enter executive session at 6:18 p.m. to review, discuss, and possibly approve employee contracts. The minutes list the staff whose contracts were reviewed: Theodore (Ted) Friend, Superintendent; Heather Nickerson, Principal; Laura Smith, Clinical Supervisor; Kristen Lanzillo, Director of Special Education/School Psychologist; Sara Howley, Business Manager; Cory Luba, IT Director (including shared town agreement); Casey Brown, Computer Technician (including shared town agreement); and Christine Chandler, Executive Assistant/Board Clerk. The board exited executive session at 6:33 p.m.

After returning to open session, Victoria Robinson-Lewis moved and John Brady seconded to accept and approve the employee contracts for the listed individuals. The minutes record the vote as "All in favor" and the motion passed. The meeting adjourned at 6:36 p.m.

Because the contract discussion took place in executive session, the minutes do not disclose details of the contract terms.
