TBMS outlines school improvement plan focused on achievement and English-learner growth

TBMS Principal Daniel Hudder presented the school’s 2025–26 improvement plan, saying the plan centers on “improved academic achievement for all students and enhanced academic growth for English language learners.” Hudder described use of STAR and other assessments to set benchmarks and said the district adjusted test timing and framing this year “to ensure more reliable data.”

Hudder explained the school is establishing Tier 2 supports during the Flex Block for targeted interventions and emphasized social-emotional learning (SEL) as part of school culture rather than a stand-alone class. “Teachers view SEL as a culture and not a class; they embrace this learning and see it as their responsibility to teach the students,” he said.

Dr. Katharine Covino asked what steps the team would take if the plan did not produce the expected gains; Hudder said the leadership team would revisit measures and supports and adjust instructional strategies and interventions as needed. Abigail Besse asked how the school is securing student buy-in for assessments; Hudder said staff frame STAR results as information for teachers to tailor instruction, telling students “their scores on the test will help to inform the teachers, ensuring that they are providing students with the learning they need.”

The presentation described plans to track progress with multiple assessment tools and to involve staff in curriculum review. Committee members praised the detailed approach and the focus on all learners. The committee did not vote on the plan at the meeting; next steps include monitoring implementation and revisiting measures if targets are not met.
