School Committee adopts Title IX‑aligned policies and sunsets older policies

The Harvard School Committee on Aug. 25 adopted two Title IX‑related policies and voted to retire two older district policies.
Ms. Amy Morton and Dr. Katharine Covino presented updates that incorporate recent federal developments and recommended language from the Massachusetts Association of School Committees (MASC). The committee voted 4-0 to accept Policy ACA (Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Sex) and Policy ACAB (Sexual Harassment), citing a federal court ruling as the reason for aligning district language with MASC guidance.
The policy subcommittee recommended sunsetting Policy ILBA (District Program Assessments) because the committee follows Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) guidance on standardized testing; the committee voted 4-0 to sunset ILBA. The subcommittee also recommended sunsetting Policy IMA (Teaching Activities and Presentations) on the basis that its subject is covered elsewhere; the committee approved that sunset 4-0. Policy IMD (School Ceremonies and Observances) was reviewed and left substantially unchanged; Ms. Jennifer Wright will add a review date to that policy.
All policy votes recorded at the meeting were unanimous; the committee did not record any abstentions or dissenting commentary on the votes recorded in the transcript.
