Assistant superintendent outlines new curriculum system, induction and recruitment efforts

Assistant Superintendent Dana Labb told the Harvard School Committee on Aug. 25 that the district has completed a transition to a new curriculum-development system that includes a unit template and shared Google Files to streamline planning and promote equity.
Mr. Labb described the work as creating a consistent, standards-based framework to support teacher effectiveness and student progression. He said the district will add a curriculum page to the district website to share resources with families.
On staffing and professional learning, Labb reported the district’s New Teacher Induction on Aug. 21 welcomed 13 new educators and a mentor training on Aug. 18 prepared experienced staff to support new colleagues with DESE-aligned mentoring practices. He said the district is strengthening efforts to recruit and retain a diverse and effective workforce through induction, mentoring and professional learning.
Labb also previewed a district event, Future Teacher Signing Day, modeled after athletic signing ceremonies, to honor graduating seniors who commit to careers in education. Superintendent Dr. Linda Dwight commended the work and emphasized distributive leadership to support rollout.
The committee did not take action on curriculum items at the meeting; staff will continue implementation and report back as needed.
