Dan, speaking for facilities, told the board the facilities operating request is effectively a 0% increase, achieved by bringing grounds work in-house (estimated $20,000 in savings), reducing substitute coverage because of newer staff, and transferring some contracted HVAC work to a new maintenance position.
He said some previously deferred summer custodial work (stripping and waxing) will need to be replenished and that a few lines were moved to support custodial and garbage services. Dan confirmed the district will engineer and bid the Monroe Elementary roof replacement and that Jockey Hollow requires new boilers. A state-mandated first-year HVAC assessment will be completed this year; the state revised earlier rules so regular licensed HVAC companies may perform the required assessments.
On capital projects, Dan said the pool heating system at the high school is on the list and staff are exploring a localized heating system in the pool mechanical room to reduce long piping runs and improve efficiency. The stadium video board and gym-floor refinishing are on the capital list; Massac’s turf field—installed in 2016 and effectively 10 years of use—was flagged for replacement in FY27–28 but there is little or no set-aside funding remaining. One board member noted a prior rough replacement estimate on the order of about $1 million.
Dan said the district will pursue grants (a grant meeting was scheduled) and will begin required engineering work on identified roof projects. No capital authorizations or funding votes were taken during this meeting.
