Deep River trustees approve minutes and treasurer’s report; discuss vendor collapse, donation and $20,000 window allocation

Deep River — The Deep River Public Library Board of Trustees met Feb. 9 and unanimously approved the minutes of Jan. 12 and the treasurer’s report.
Trustees present were Donna Mingrone (who called the meeting to order), Sarah Field, Susan Rooney, Linda Zemmel, Kevin Brewer, Angus MacDonald, Jennifer Philips and Heidi Degree. The treasurer’s report showed Liberty Checking with an ending balance of $4,182.43, Liberty Money Market $25,589.75 and the town-funded Citizens’ account $21,263.21. On motion made and seconded, trustees voted unanimously to approve the treasurer’s report.
In the Library Director’s report, the director said statistics are “up across the board” for library usage and noted a donation from Martha Moody; Susan Rooney will send a thank-you note. The director also briefed the board on fallout from the collapse of the Baker & Taylor book vendor and on a proposed Connecticut law intended to protect libraries from predatory e-book licensing agreements.
The board was reminded of an upcoming River Valley Artists art show and reception on Feb. 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and an updated calendar of events was posted and made available in print.
In committee reports, Hospitality said cookies will be available for the reception. Angus MacDonald reported that $20,000 was set aside in town capital funds earmarked for library window replacement — the funds were approved at a town vote — and said he will investigate where the money is being held. Publicity members asked for advance notice of events so they can be promoted through the Valley Courier and local newsletters.
The meeting adjourned at 7:23 p.m. Minutes are subject to approval at the next Library Board meeting.
