Daviess County redevelopment commission approves funding to advance Westgate water tower

The Daviess County Redevelopment Commission voted unanimously at a special meeting to proceed with funding for a Westgate water tower, saying the project is central to planned infrastructure work for the area.

The commission's chair opened the meeting saying the special session was called because "we have some cool projects that we want to get moving along," and identified the Westgate water tower as the primary item for action. Commissioners agreed a TIF mechanism will be used to support the project.

The commission approved minutes from a prior meeting before moving to the water tower item. After brief discussion the commission took a motion "to move forward with funding of that water tower project," which Mike Keith moved and the motion passed unanimously with all members present voting in favor.

Commissioners said the tower is a timely piece of the Westgate plan and that several future pieces of development hinge on its completion. The chair noted a separate road project will be contractor-funded with its own TIF and bond and that the commission will hold another meeting to review that item.

The chair said staff will coordinate next steps for the water tower procurement and implementation. The meeting adjourned after brief public comment reiterating the project's importance.
