Gila Regional Medical Center board chair reports improved finances and a near‑final 2026–28 strategic plan

Dr. Fred Fox, chair of the board of trustees for Hila (Gila) Regional Medical Center, updated the commission on trustee onboarding, operational improvements and a forthcoming strategic plan for 2026–28. Fox said the board has welcomed a seventh trustee and has worked with hospital leadership and management consultants to prepare a strategic-plan draft expected to come before the hospital board for final approval in the spring.
Fox highlighted recognitions for the hospital — including awards from the New Mexico Hospital Association and a Forbes listing naming the hospital among five top New Mexico hospitals — and cited increased net patient service revenue, stronger operating results and improved cash reserves for the current fiscal year. He said staff engagement scores and a focus on quality helped drive those improvements.
The strategic-plan priorities include strengthening primary‑care access and selected specialty services, addressing barriers to care, expanding behavioral‑health services and workforce development to retain physicians and clinicians amid national shortages. Fox also noted continuing capital and equipment needs and said hospital leadership will balance financial stability with equitable care for area residents.
Commissioners thanked Fox and raised a housekeeping request about contact information on the hospital website after receiving constituent emails; Fox and staff said they would review contact details to make it easier for residents to reach trustees or hospital leadership with concerns.
