Mashpee committee adds informational superintendent-search update; consultant says decision expected next week

The Mashpee School Committee voted to add an informational update on its superintendent search to tonight’s agenda and heard a progress report from the search consultant.

Glenn, who provided the update, said the search team has completed two of three finalist site visits and that the third finalist will visit the district tomorrow. "We will during the rest of this week be completing the reference checking and have a reference summary for you," he said, adding he expects the committee "will be able to make a decision ... next week." The consultant described the candidate visits as positive and said final interviews will follow.

Committee members discussed posting and notice requirements before adding the item; one member urged postponing substantive interviews until they could be placed on a posted agenda for transparency. The committee voted to add an informational update to the agenda; the transcript records one member abstaining and one opposing the addition while others supported it.

Members also confirmed procedures for preparing interview materials: committee-submitted questions will be consolidated by staff and Glenn into a printed packet for use during interviews, and finalized interview questions will be distributed to committee members ahead of the scheduled sessions.

The committee was given a schedule for public postings related to the search and was reminded to coordinate student-advisory participation in candidate interviews. No hiring decision was announced at the meeting; the consultant and members said a decision is expected after next week’s interviews and reference checks.
