During the Aug. 3 meeting a representative from Bolton & Menk spoke on behalf of Schmitt Construction and requested an increase of $5,719.44 to Schmitt's original bid.
Councilor Summer Schmitt abstained from participating in that discussion and any vote due to a stated conflict of interest. Bolton & Menk indicated a contingency fund existed that could cover the requested increase, but the council said it preferred to see additional progress in construction before authorizing use of contingency funds.
No formal motion to approve the increase appears in the minutes; the council deferred action pending further construction updates.
