Commission recommends council approve CSAH 66 bridge rehabilitation project

Crow Wing County’s federally approved CSAH 66 bridge rehabilitation, set for June–Sept. 2026 with one‑lane alternating traffic and concrete mill/overlay work, was briefed to the commission and the commission voted to recommend council approval of the county resolution.
Crow Wing County Engineering Manager Steve Stroschein told the City of Crosslake Public Works Commission on March 2 that a federally and state‑approved rehabilitation of the CSAH 66 bridge is scheduled to begin June 1 and finish Sept. 30, 2026.
Stroschein said the 1980 bridge (about 45 years old) will be kept open to one lane using a temporary trailer‑mounted signal to alternate traffic. Work will include replacement of guardrails with closer‑spaced wire bands, milling roughly 3 inches of delaminated concrete in places, and a concrete overlay to restore the deck. Boat traffic under the bridge will not be affected, the county reported.
Commission Chair Tom Swenson moved and Commissioner Dave Schrupp seconded a motion recommending City Council approval of a "Resolution Approving County Project Within Municipal Corporate Limits" for the county project; the motion carried with all ayes. The commission noted the county will provide daily progress updates on its website, and county staff said the east side could be done first to reduce disruption during peak times.
No funding action by the city was requested at the commission meeting; the commission’s vote was a formal recommendation to the City Council to approve the county’s project within the city limits.
