The New Milford Board of Education approved a set of routine and substantive items during its April 28 meeting, including minutes, budget actions, policy adoptions and an appointment to district administration.
The board approved the Regular Meeting Minutes from March 17, 2026; the motion passed 8-0-1 with Mrs. Tammy McInerney recorded as abstaining. Trustees then approved the Budget Position dated March 30, 2026, Purchase Resolution D-805 and requests for budget transfers; that motion passed unanimously.
On policy, the board approved several revised policies on second read, including 4118.25/4218.25 (Reports of Suspected Abuse or Neglect and Sexual Assaults of Students by School Employees), 4131/4231 (Social Media), 4152.6/4252.6 (Family and Medical Leave Act), 5131 (Student Discipline) and 5146 (Child Sexual Abuse and Assault Response Policy and Reporting Procedure). The board also took the Healthy Food Certification action required by Connecticut General Statutes Section 10-215f for school year 2026–27 and approved limited exceptions allowing sale of noncompliant items only when sold at an event occurring after the regular school day, at the event location, and not from vending machines or the school store during the official school day.
Finally, after an executive-session interview of a candidate for Director of Human Resources, the board voted to appoint Linda Demeyer to the position effective July 1, 2026; the appointment passed 8-0-1 with Mrs. Sarah Herring abstaining.
Why it matters: The policy adoptions reflect statutory and regulatory updates and set district expectations on abuse reporting, social media, discipline and parental access to instructional material. Appointment of a Director of Human Resources fills a senior administrative role that oversees personnel policy and staffing.
What happens next: Policy updates will be implemented by district administration; the board recorded motions and directed staff to carry out the budget transfers and purchase-resolution items approved at the meeting.
