Board members discussed facilities and capital-planning work at the March 17 meeting, including tennis-court maintenance, Central Office design work, and initial planning for a high-school culinary program.
Director of Facilities Matthew Cunningham said crews will perform maintenance on the high-school tennis courts this season and that the district will seek contractors experienced with USTA grant requirements for larger work planned next summer. Cunningham also reported meetings with engineers to plan first-phase Central Office work and said the district is collecting cost estimates and drawings for a possible culinary program at the high school.
Tom O'Brien reported on an earlier MBC meeting and said the MBC awarded the A&E work to Silver Petrucelli after three RFP bids. "We also discussed options for third-party supervision," Cunningham said, describing choices such as hiring a Clerk of the Works or a dedicated Project Manager. Board members noted lead times for wall panels and other materials as a constraint on completing major work over the summer and said realistic scheduling and public communication are critical.
No formal BOE vote on construction contracts was recorded at this meeting; members discussed next steps including finalizing plans and specifications and deciding whether to engage outside supervision. Staff will continue gathering cost estimates and will report back once plans and specifications are submitted to the district.
