District proposes new social-media process to centralize accounts and meet state archiving rules

Hannigan said the goals are organizational clarity, compliance with state archiving requirements, and reducing unauthorized or unofficial accounts. Key elements: mandatory registration of existing district-affiliated accounts, connecting accounts to the CivicPlus archiving platform, a required approval workflow for new accounts (building principal + communication specialist), use of district email addresses for official accounts, and a process to update or remove inactive accounts. "All existing district-affiliated social media accounts will complete a registration process to ensure that we are maintaining accurate records and that we remain in compliance with state archiving requirements," Hannigan said.
Committee members asked about student-managed accounts and supports for clubs and teams whose social channels are primarily student-run. Hannigan and administration said they are developing building-level supports (advisors, coaches, or a program-managed check) and will work with principals and the athletic director to identify account managers and training during implementation.
The committee thanked Hannigan for the overview and asked that implementation details and alignment with district policy be included in next-year planning.
