Council adopts new RV zoning district and annexes Sunset Pines RV Park

The Cochran City Council on May 13 adopted an amendment to the city zoning ordinance to create an RV (Recreational Vehicle) zoning district and approved annexation plus RV zoning for a portion of Sunset Pines RV Park.
City staff said the amendment will add Section 4.7 to the zoning ordinance (renumbering existing sections accordingly) to establish development standards for RV parks. The Planning Commission recommended reducing the maximum density from 15 to 10 sites per acre to ensure adequate site sizes. No members of the public spoke during the hearing and the council closed the public hearing before voting.
Separately, Jack and Denise Nobles petitioned to annex 5.19 acres of their Sunset Pines RV Park, a parcel containing 30 RV sites of a larger 56‑site park at 273 Westside Road. The council unanimously approved the annexation and then assigned the annexed tract an RV‑Recreational Vehicle zoning designation as recommended by the Planning Commission.
Council members noted the hearings were uncontested and that Planning Commission review preceded council action. The changes take effect as adopted and will govern development and site standards for future RV park activity in the newly created zoning district.
