Salem Township approves routine minutes, expenditures, consultant hire, weight limits and fireworks permit

At its July 17 meeting, the Salem Township Board of Supervisors approved a slate of routine administrative actions, including minutes, expenditures, a consultant hire, advertisement of a weight-restriction ordinance, and a fireworks permit.
Motions and votes: Supervisor Kerry Jobe moved and Supervisor Bob Zundel seconded approval of the June 19 regular-meeting minutes and the June 27 special meeting minutes (the latter to re-advertise a bid). The board approved monthly expenditures totaling $104,243.13 across funds (General $39,868.06; Payroll $48,031.04; Sewage $4,727.00; Liquid Fuels $4,710.77; Streetlights $395.06; Machinery $1,829.95; Fire $3,039.75; Park Initiative $1,028.00; Act 13 $613.50). The motions passed with Zundel and Jobe voting in favor; Supervisor Ken Trumbetta was recorded absent for these votes.
Resident Tom Ridella questioned why there were separate fuel charges from Export Fuel and Five Points; the board explained there were two Export Fuel invoices and a Five Points bill covering accumulated charges from the prior year.
The board also approved a fireworks-display permit for the Slickville Volunteer Fire Department and waived the permit fee, and approved hiring Arlene Rosatti as a consultant at a rate of $25 per hour. The board authorized preparation and advertisement of an ordinance to add Helen Drive (T741), Stony Springs Road (T794), Hillview Drive (T619), Long Plan Road (T674), Lake Drive (T676), and Walters Road (T933) to the township’s official list of weight-restricted roads. All motions were made by Kerry Jobe, seconded by Bob Zundel, and carried with Trumbetta absent.
Park and appointments: Supervisor Kerry Jobe reported the park pavilion has been heavily booked for the summer and a master plan for the park is in development. The board noted receipt of a letter of interest from Tim Kozinkq for the Recreation Board but said the appointment has not been made because the township’s bylaws currently allow two district appointments from the Greensburg-Salem School District; the board is discussing whether to amend the internal ordinance to change that process.
Next steps: the weight-restriction ordinance will be prepared and advertised per the board vote; permit and hiring actions are effective as recorded in the meeting minutes.
