Salem Township planning commission to advertise informational meeting on SALDO changes

Salem Township Planning Commission on Oct. 2, 2024 voted unanimously to advertise a special informational meeting in November to gather public comment on proposed amendments to the township's Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance (SALDO).
Township Solicitor Gary Falatovich told commissioners he would like one provision revised promptly: language allowing the township to recover solicitor, engineering and other application costs by collecting escrows from developers. He also recommended clarifying SALDO definitions for minor and major subdivisions, land developments and side‑lot additions where sewage facilities planning is not required. Falatovich said addressing these items should reduce future conflicts between developer obligations and resident expectations and prevent residents from subsidizing developer review costs.
Commissioner Paul Holleran moved, and John Durco seconded, to advertise the informational meeting for the first two weeks of November; all members voted in favor. The commission also voted unanimously to adjourn; the next regular meeting was set for Nov. 6, 2024 at 6:00 p.m., if there is an agenda.
The advertised informational meeting will provide a public forum for comment on proposed SALDO language changes; the solicitor will supply draft plan‑notation language to developers and return materials to the commission for final consideration.
