Humboldt County CCP unencumbers $3.8M to rent and improve Day Reporting Center at 605 K Street

EUREKA, Calif. — The Humboldt County Community Corrections Partnership (CCP) executive committee on June 17 unanimously approved a move to free $3.8 million in CCP funds previously encumbered for the 863 jail expansion so that up to $1.5 million may be used for improvements and rent at 605 K Street, the proposed new Day Reporting Center that will house the county’s Community Corrections Resource Center (CCRC). Public Defender Luke Brownfield moved the action and Sheriff William Honsal seconded it; the motion was carried unanimously by the voting members present.
The committee did not vote on a final improvement budget at the meeting; members approved the funding reallocation in principle and directed staff to return with a proposal detailing specific building-improvement costs. Public Works is preparing building plans and calculating estimated costs; Jake from Public Works is scheduled to present the financials at the CCP’s August 19 meeting.
Chief Probation Officer Coral Sanders called the meeting to order and noted there was no update on the AB109 Trust Fund at this session. The reallocation of funds is intended to allow the county to secure and make the new Day Reporting Center operational while staff completes planning for any permanent capital work.
The vote followed routine meeting business including approval of the May 20, 2026 minutes. The committee also set its next meeting for August 19 and cancelled the July meeting because of anticipated low attendance. The committee will consider a detailed cost breakdown for the 605 K Street improvements at the August meeting.
