The council approved a staff-recommended first amendment to the Vermeier Manufacturing Company hangar lease at the Pella Municipal Airport and set public hearing dates for two related ground-lease matters.
City staff (Mike) said the Vermeier amendment brings that hangar lease into alignment with recently approved ground-lease terms at the municipal airport, increasing annual rent from $1,000 to $5,442 (based on 30 cents per square foot) and expanding the leased area to include all property used for aviation purposes. The council closed the public hearing for the Vermeier amendment, heard no written comments, and approved Resolution No. 6997.
Staff also explained two related items and asked the council to establish public-hearing dates: an amendment to the Wiler Transportation Inc. ground lease (staff described a proposed increase in annual rent to $4,935, also at 30 cents per square foot, and updated lease maps) and a proposed new ground lease with Classic Aviation Inc. (the city's FBO and airport manager) with similar terms. Council set February 17 as the public hearing date for those items and asked staff to publish notice.
City staff said the adjustments are meant to standardize ground-lease terms across airport tenants and reflect current use and maps; no substantive written public comment was received for the Vermeier amendment.
