City staff updated the Pella City Council on change orders and schedule for the new indoor recreation and aquatic center.
Staff said a committee chaired by Council member John Butler approved administrative Change Order No. 11, addressing footing, excavation and soil items; the amount was described as just under $20,000. The committee provided a list of previously approved change orders and staff reported a remaining change‑order authorization of $93,660. About 350 of 400 shop drawings have been reviewed by engineering, which staff characterized as a sign that most administrative change orders are behind the project.
Contractors are reported to be making progress. Staff gave a technical completion target of May 2027 and an estimated start of operations in July 2027, subject to usual construction contingencies.
What happens next: the project will continue under the current contract and staff will manage remaining change orders under the current authorization; the council will receive further updates as needed.
