Cordele Commission opts in to House Bills 581 and 92

Commissioners moved and seconded a motion to opt in to House Bill 581 and House Bill 92 and voted in favor of opting in at the Jan. 6 meeting. Staff explained the municipality may adopt a resolution before March 1 to opt in, and that doing so requires submission to appropriate state offices.
Commission discussion noted the bills— potential to lower taxes for some residents while affecting local revenue distribution; one commissioner called the measures "simple" to implement at the municipal level and suggested the resolution be adopted before the deadline. The motion passed on a voice vote.
Staff said they will prepare the necessary resolution language for filing and noted any opt-in must be transmitted to the Secretary of State by the statutory deadline. The commission did not record an extended debate and moved on to other items after the vote.
