The Cordele City Commission appointed Tommy Coleman as city attorney on a one-year retainer, retained the current solicitor and approved the public defender appointment for one year. Motions to approve those appointments were moved and seconded and carried on voice votes.
On a separate motion, the commission approved a two-year employment agreement for the city manager with explicit stipulations. The contract requires the city manager to prepare and present the FY2027 operating budget in compliance with the city charter, applicable ordinances and Georgia law, and to ensure that required annual financial reports and audits are completed and submitted to the Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts by statutory deadlines.
The commission also approved the second reading of an ordinance adopting a budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2025. The ordinance repeals conflicting ordinances and establishes the city's fiscal plan for the coming year.
City leaders said the stipulations tied to the city manager agreement are intended to improve fiscal accountability and ensure timely reporting. The motions passed on voice votes during the regular meeting; the minutes record carriage of the budget ordinance and the employment agreement.
