City Manager Ryan Cummins reported several administrative updates and community grants at the Saugatuck City Council meeting Oct. 9.
Cummins thanked staff for election preparations and public inquiry support, singled out Clerk Jamie Wolters for election-related work, and noted Treasurer Nicole and Director of Planning and Zoning Luke (last names not specified in the minutes) have been improving processes in their departments. He announced the city had secured a $250,000 grant for the Maple Street project and that the Rotary Club donated $10,000 to support milfoil treatment. Cummins also welcomed Scott Morrow as the new DPW equipment maintenance operator.
Boards and commission updates included an Interurban Board report that ridership has returned near pre-COVID levels and that a free shuttle will run for the Halloween parade on Oct. 26 from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., operating between the drugstore and downtown Douglas. In council comments, Councilmember Muncey promoted the Dunes Resort Make-A-Wish fundraiser scheduled for Oct. 19, which he said typically raises between $10,000 and $15,000 and will feature a silent auction, a drag show and food for attendees.
The minutes record these announcements as informational items; no ordinance introductions or new policy actions related to the grant or donation were recorded at the meeting.
