Scottsboro City Schools board approves personnel changes, contracts and policy updates

At its Aug. 1 meeting the Scottsboro City Schools board unanimously approved multiple personnel moves, contracts for student services and vendors, a security-gate MOU with the City of Scottsboro, and a fleet insurance contract for $51,999.12 for the 2024–25 year.
The Scottsboro City Schools Board of Education on Aug. 1, 2024 approved a broad set of routine personnel actions, contracts and policy revisions that school leaders said will support operations for the coming school year.
Superintendent Amy Childress presented the personnel agenda, which included the resignation of Becky Smith (P.E. instructional assistant, Caldwell Elementary) effective July 31, 2024; transfers such as Sylvia Coleman’s move to a 207-day Career Curriculum Specialist/CTE Teacher role at Scottsboro High School effective Aug. 1; new hires including Molly Gasior as an itinerant speech-language pathologist and Heather Johnson as a third-grade teacher (both effective Aug. 5); a long-term substitute appointment for Kristi Moore (Sept. 13–Dec. 20); and leave requests for Marcae Arnold (Sept. 9–Dec. 2) and custodian Ray Venable (Aug. 7–Aug. 27). The personnel slate was approved by motion and a unanimous vote.
The board also approved multiple service contracts for the 2024–25 year, including agreements with Huntsville Behavioral Services, Alabama Behavioral Therapy Services and Sunny Horizons, nurse contracts for extracurricular activities, TEAMS contracts, a homebound teacher contract, and a Collins Intermediate School art teacher contract. The board approved a memorandum of understanding with the City of Scottsboro to install a security gate at the SCS bus shop and awarded a fleet insurance bid to Tower Community Insurance Agency at a cost of $51,999.12, effective Aug. 27, 2024 through Aug. 26, 2025. A revision to charge meal policy 3.17.2 and a technology inventory disposal list were approved as presented.
Several administrative items were set for future action: the board scheduled a work session for Aug. 15, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. and the next board meeting for Sept. 5, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. The meeting adjourned by unanimous vote.
