Interurban ridership nears pre-COVID levels; board moving to online ticketing and a proposed 5% pay increase

Councilmember Muncey told the Saugatuck City Council on Sept. 23 that Interurban ridership is approaching pre-COVID levels and shared recent operational plans.
Muncey reported 11,877 riders in August and said year-to-date ridership stood at 68,859 compared with 68,252 at the same point last year. He said the Interurban is updating its website to allow riders to purchase tickets online and is developing a mobile app expected to be available next year. Muncey also said the Interurban will hold a fiscal-year-end meeting to approve the budget and is planning to propose a 5% wage increase across the board for Interurban staff.
During the meeting Muncey also thanked Kathleen Johnson for 22 years of service on the Interurban Board; Johnson was present and spoke briefly in support of reappointment during the public-comment portion of the agenda.
The minutes do not list additional operational details such as vendor names for ticketing infrastructure, a timetable for implementing online sales, or the budget line items that would fund the proposed wage increase.
