Shelby City Council approves consent items, awards a forgivable home loan and sets budget work study

At its Jan. 6 meeting the Shelby City Council approved consent items including renewal of Desperado's liquor license, approved a five-year forgivable $22,500 loan for a new home at 302 Summit, tabled generator bids pending a second bid, designated the Avoca Journal-Herald as the official paper and scheduled a Jan. 20 budget work study.
The Shelby City Council on Jan. 6 approved a slate of routine items and took several administrative actions.
On motion by Jackie Hursey, seconded by Karen Schlueter, the council approved the meeting agenda. The consent agenda—approved on motion by Schlueter and second by Todd Frank—included approval of minutes for Dec. 2, Dec. 16 and Dec. 18, 2025; the Treasurer's Report; bills; and renewal of Desperado's liquor license.
Council also tabled generator bids on motion by Hursey, seconded by Frank, until a second bid is received. In a separate action, the council approved a five-year forgivable loan of $22,500 for Spencer Petersen for construction of a new home at 302 Summit; the loan will be secured against the property as a mortgage and executed by the applicant as a condition of fund release. The council designated the Avoca Journal-Herald as the official publication for city notices and scheduled a Budget Work Study for Jan. 20. The meeting adjourned at 9:05 p.m.
These actions were recorded in the meeting minutes and require no additional council votes unless staff brings them back for further review or to release the approved loan funds.
