Akron council appoints Julie Carr to vacant trustee seat after two resignations

The Village of Akron Council accepted two resignations and filled a vacant trustee seat at its Feb. 17 meeting.
Councilmember T. Nusz moved to accept Trustee Deb Meyer’s resignation; Councilmember M. Strasz seconded and the motion passed unanimously (3‑0). Later the council accepted the resignation of DPW Supervisor Marv Hasso on a motion by M. Strasz, seconded by T. Nusz, also approved 3‑0. Following discussion of four letters of interest for the open council seat, the council voted to offer the seat to Julie Carr on a motion by T. Nusz, seconded by M. Strasz; that motion carried unanimously (3‑0).
Council President R. Huizar presented a $5,062.50 estimate for removal and replacement of the front sidewalk at Village Hall during the president’s report. The council discussed the applicants for the trustee vacancy and said Julie Carr appeared to be the best fit; the record does not show a public interview with any applicant at the meeting.
The motions were all recorded as unanimous with the three members present — R. Huizar, T. Nusz and M. Strasz — voting in favor. No additional staffing plan for the DPW supervisor vacancy was presented during the meeting.
The council adjourned at 7:11 PM; minutes were submitted by Clerk Charlynn Wilson.
