Akron council raises village minimum wage to $13.73, approves postage purchase

The Village of Akron council approved an increase in the local minimum wage for village employees from $12.48 to $13.73 per hour effective Jan. 1, 2026, during its Dec. 16 meeting.
T. Nusz moved to increase the wage and M. Strasz seconded; the motion passed unanimously (5-0). Clerk Charlynn Wilson announced the change during the clerk's report and recorded the vote in the minutes.
The council also approved the purchase of 10 rolls of postage at a cost of $610 after a motion from M. Strasz and second by T. Nusz. The clerk noted a community cookie-decorating and cocoa event scheduled Dec. 22 at the Akron Village Hall from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The minutes do not list a budget amendment tied to the wage change and do not indicate whether the increase applies to contract or seasonal workers beyond village employees. Staff will implement the wage increase and adjust payroll as required for Jan. 1, 2026.
