Akron council approves hiring of assistant DPW, new banners and a $0.44 sewer rate increase

The Village of Akron council approved a set of routine actions and recorded operational updates during its Nov. 18 meeting.
On recorded votes the council unanimously approved minutes from Oct. 21 and bills and payroll totaling $39,985.05. Council Member M. Strasz moved to hire Ralph Bills as a contracted, part-time assistant Department of Public Works employee at $14.00 per hour; Council Member T. Nusz seconded and the motion passed 5–0. The council also voted to purchase discounted Christmas banners from Bronners after a motion by M. Strasz and a second by D. Meyer; that motion passed unanimously.
The clerk reported that tax disbursements of $131,249.99 were distributed to village funds on Nov. 6. The clerk also reported that sewer rates will increase by $0.44 per village patron in December; the minutes do not provide additional billing-breakdown details.
Other items discussed included routine public works activity (brush and leaf pickup, maintenance of the leaf vac), a public-works quote for 6–8 park cameras (to be revisited in December), and plans to restore ArcGIS utility mapping after prior service lapses. Police staff reported steady visible patrols and training plans; the fire department reported nine runs and joint training with Fairgrove.
