The Village of Akron council on May 20 accepted the resignation of Treasurer Michael Kay Vollmar and unanimously appointed April Kangas as the village treasurer, the council said.
Council Member D. Meyer moved to approve Vollmar's resignation, and T. Nusz supported the motion. The council then voted to remove Vollmar from all Northstar Bank accounts and certificates of deposit and to add April Kangas as a signatory on Northstar Bank and Team One Credit Union accounts. All motions passed with no nays.
The council approved payment of the village's bills and payroll in the amount of $22,107.91 (motion by T. Nusz, supported by M. Strasz). Council also voted to pay Kangas $200 to complete delinquent utility-billing work to be placed on the Summer 2025 tax roll (motion by T. Tait, supported by D. Meyer). All motions were reported as unanimous.
Council members who participated in votes and roll call were listed in the minutes as R. Huizar, M. Strasz, T. Nusz, T. Tait and D. Meyer. The clerk recorded the motions and consistent "all in favor, no nays" outcomes.
The appointment follows interviews for the treasurer position; the meeting packet lists three resumes received for the role. The clerk's report and motions establishing signatory authority will allow the treasurer immediate access to the municipal accounts, per motions adopted at the meeting.
Next steps: the council directed staff to complete the bank-authority paperwork and to place the delinquent utility billing on the tax roll after Kangas processes the accounts.
