BERLIN/BOYLSTON, Mass. — The Berlin-Boylston Regional School Committee voted unanimously March 10 to approve a $26,467,728 operating budget for fiscal year 2027 and to add four staff positions to next year’s staffing plan.
Director of Finance and Operations Aaron Osborne and Interim Superintendent Albert G. Ganem Jr. presented an updated FY27 budget at the committee’s budget hearing at Tahanto Regional Middle/High School. During the meeting the committee approved a motion to add the following positions to the operating budget: one full-time biology teacher (1.0 FTE), one full-time ELA coach (1.0 FTE), a district float nurse (.6 FTE) and one full-time reading specialist (1.0 FTE). The motion to add those positions was made by Mrs. Elisabeth Mancini and seconded by Mrs. Jessica Deglialberti; the roll-call vote was 6–0 in favor.
The FY27 operating budget of $26,467,728 was approved by roll call 6–0. The budget as approved incorporates offsets and reimbursements totaling specified line items: School Choice ($710,000), Circuit Breaker reimbursement ($926,000) and IDEA grant funds ($270,000). The committee noted the budget is funded through protected revenues that include the Berlin operating assessment ($9,166,930), the Boylston operating assessment ($13,432,843), Chapter 70 state aid ($3,229,646), Chapter 71 transportation reimbursement ($356,602), Excess & Deficiency ($200,000), Medicaid reimbursement ($35,000), investment reimbursement ($35,000) and a charter school reimbursement ($11,706).
Committee members voting in favor were Mrs. Jessica Deglialberti, Mrs. Meagan Grill, Mrs. Elisabeth Mancini, Mrs. Lisa Mair, Mrs. Jackelyn Hoffses and Chair Michael Totman. No opposing votes or abstentions were recorded in the roll-call as presented to the committee.
The approval follows the administration’s presentation of the updated budget figures; the committee did not record public-comment testimony in the transcript for this hearing. The committee noted the budget’s reliance on state reimbursements and local operating assessments from Berlin and Boylston.
