Committee approves Jayjeet Govardhan’s hotel and employee housing permit in Town of Woodruff

The Oneida County Planning and Development Committee approved May 27 a conditional use permit for a proposed hotel and employee housing development by applicant Jayjeet Govardhan and owner Laxmi Holdings LLC in the Town of Woodruff.
Karl Jennrich, planning and zoning director, and Scott Ridderbusch, land use specialist, summarized the application, noting that notices were posted in the Northwoods River News and mailed to affected parties; the Town of Woodruff’s correspondence was read into the record. Staff recommended a suite of conditions including obtaining required town, county and state permits; recording easements for parking, stormwater retention and utilities if the parcel is subdivided; compliance with WDNR stormwater/erosion and waterway protections; Oneida County Health Department approvals; dumpster screening and downcast lighting; and a maximum allowed mean building height of 44 feet, 6¾ inches.
During public comment Richard Smith spoke; the record indicates the committee and staff conferred with the applicant about fencing, berms and vegetation along the west boundary. The committee added a twelfth condition to require a berm with topsoil and landscaping vegetation where feasible or, alternatively, placement of a fence along the west boundary from the south end of the retention pond to the southerly parking area. On a motion by Billy Fried, seconded by Bob Almekinder, the committee approved the CUP with the staff's eleven recommended conditions plus the added Condition #12. The motion carried with all members present voting “Aye.”
The approval is conditional: construction and operation depend on satisfying the listed conditions and providing required documentation of WDNR permits, health department approvals and any recorded easements required by the county.
