The Massachusetts Cultural Council approved recommendations for the Gaming Mitigation Fund and Grants for Creative Individuals at its Feb. 25 online meeting, voting unanimously by roll call with three members absent.
Programs staff presented the Gaming Mitigation Fund recommendations (the program is in the second year of a two-year commitment) and a slide sampling of Grants for Creative Individuals recipients. Program Manager Dan Blask reported the Grants for Creative Individuals program awarded 464 unrestricted grants to artists and creative practitioners for FY26, representing a broad range of disciplines; staff noted materials and presentation slides are available upon request.
Diane Asadorian Masters moved to approve the grants recommendations and Donna Haghighat seconded. The Council approved both the Gaming Mitigation Program grants and the Grants for Creative Individuals "as presented," with no recorded opposition.
Council Chair Marc Carroll and Acting Executive Director David Slatery emphasized the value of seeing concrete examples of grantee work during meetings and thanked staff for their management of the grants system. The approvals allow staff to move forward with payments and program administration under the FY26 commitments.
