Council approves park irrigation, fence repairs and a lot split; OKs field rental for travel team

The Pellston council on Aug. 14 approved multiple items affecting parks, recreation and local property divisions.
The council approved Davis Irrigation work at Memorial Park at a cost of $21,000 with $15,000 coming from the DDA and $6,000 from the general fund. Carolina Mallory moved and Steve Hall seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
Maintenance updates indicated heavy summer use of Pioneer Park and near-complete work for North Emmett Little League; Mark Givens was noted as the league’s new president. The council approved $3,200 for ballfield fence repairs, to be split $1,600 from the general fund and $1,600 from Pellston Schools.
Planning and zoning actions included the approval of a split of lot #3 of the plat of Bogardus, 2nd addition (block #34) requested by Mike English; the split leaves four lots (new lot described as 50 feet x 160 feet). The council also noted that the Planning Commission is revising the Master Plan and that NEMCOG will rewrite the DDA’s TIF plan.
On recreation, President Jim Gillett said the DALMC Bicycle tour will bring more than 450 riders through Pellston on Sept. 1. The council agreed to allow Patrick Holt and his Travel Ball Team to use the ball field on Sundays for $100 per week for six weeks provided the team carries liability insurance.
Next steps: DPW staff to oversee irrigation and fence repairs, and planning staff to finalize plat recording details.
