The Village of Peck council on Jan. 15 approved several budget and operational measures, including a wage increase for the village intern, a three-year solid-waste contract, a special assessment for police funding and an MDOT permit resolution.
The council voted to raise the village intern wage to $12.48 per hour, effective February 2025, citing the recent increase in the minimum wage. The motion carried with President Carie Bennett, Mayor Pro‑Tem David Tyler, Trustee Andrew Warren and Trustee Craig Wissel voting aye and Trustee Phronsie Warren recording an abstention.
The council awarded a solid-waste contract to J&J Disposal covering 2025–2028, approving the contract “as presented.” The motion carried with all recorded members voting aye.
Trustee Andrew Warren moved to establish a special assessment district that increases property taxes by 2.5 mills to support the police budget; the motion carried with all members voting aye.
Council members also adopted Resolution 01‑2025, required by the Michigan Department of Transportation to permit use of state highway right of way. The resolution passed unanimously.
