Middlefield commission narrows budget lines, seeks maintenance hire and mowing bids

At its April 9 meeting the Middlefield Park and Recreation Commission reviewed the department's proposed budget and staffing needs and directed staff to supply more detail and bids at the next meeting.
Director Mary Farnsworth reviewed the proposed budget, highlighting items including bathroom cleaning, a maintenance position, portalets at Peckham Park and an early childhood education line. Commissioners requested removing the early childhood education line item, reinstating portalets at Peckham Park, and moving the bathroom-cleaning allocation into the maintenance position. The commission agreed to use the town's revolving fund to cover any budget overages.
Mary also reported that the current maintenance worker for Peckham Park has resigned and that the department is actively hiring; commissioners expressed support for increasing the maintenance position's hours. Mary said mowing bids are being solicited and that she will present bids at the next meeting for commission review and approval. She further reported that After School Enrichment pilot programs were successful and that she will work with the Transition Academy to arrange volunteer support for tasks including bathroom cleaning at Peckham Park.
Commissioners requested a detailed budget breakdown at the next meeting and that mowing bids be provided for review.
