Middlefield Board reviews tax collector budget and capital fund adjustments at Budget Workshop #6

During the tax collector budget review, the board recorded: a tax collector salary increase of $1,706 (3.5%); an assistant tax collector salary addition of $3,000 intended to cover a five-week vacation; a State Delinquent Auto item of $250 for online DMV processing; a property tax system line at $14,303; conferences and dues at $100; and office expense at $500. Anne Olszewski, the town tax collector, was listed among meeting attendees and is the relevant department contact on these lines.
Capital non-recurring fund changes discussed included removing $12,000 from 'Design review guidelines' as unused; moving Beseck Lot remediation funds to the operating account; removing $9,999 from a 'State EMS Plan' entry because no plan will be created; and noting that Rescue Truck #4 has already been purchased, leaving $37,409 in that line and prompting discussion of removing $30,000. The board also noted a potential $17,000 giveback from Planning & Zoning regulation revisions.
In other budget items, Park and Recreation agreed to cover an $8,500 early-child expense so that line was removed from the budget. A public comment by Tim Burt regarding Durham Middlefield Youth and Family Services was placed on hold because the item was not on the published agenda.
The board scheduled its next meeting for Tuesday, April 14, 2026, and adjourned the session at 9:38 p.m.
