Residents press Sand Lake council for clarity on deficit resolutions and fire-department matters

Residents used the meeting’s two public-comment periods to press the Village of Sand Lake Council for more detail about recently adopted resolutions and for transparency about supporting documents and fire‑department issues.
At the opening public comment, Samantha Gore of 210 Oak St asked whether the deficit resolution discussed Dec. 4 was the same document adopted recently and whether road grants had been applied for, and she asked whether holiday pay had been discussed at the employee’s time of hire. Gore asked why the matter, originally scheduled for Dec. 22, appeared again. "At the December 4th meeting it was stated that the deficit resolution had been rectified some had a letter stating that it had not been submitted until December 8th is this the same Deficit Resolution. Were any road grants applied for? Was holiday pay discussed at time of hire. This was originally scheduled for December 22nd were these things that were just forgotten on the December meeting," she said.
During the second public‑comment session, Jason Bergman of 2257 Kimball Rd said he "doesn't understand how you can pass a resolution without explaining it." Rachel Gokey of 176 Oak St said the minutes list only resolution numbers that she could not find on the village website and asked, "What's going on with Fire?" Katy Austin of Sunset Shores in Cedar Springs said she was told by attorneys not to expect responses to public comment and called that disrespectful. An unidentified speaker asked how much state funding had been removed.
In council comment, Council Member Stieg thanked the board for entrusting him with the vacant seat and thanked former Council Member Merritt for her service. Stieg noted that the Fire Department was not on the agenda and said he hopes a resolution can be found to address related concerns. The council did not provide additional documentation during the meeting; residents asked for the resolutions or supporting documents to be posted on the village website.
