Pellston council hears planning and maintenance updates; AT&T revisits cell-tower interest

The council received a package of planning and maintenance updates at the April 14 meeting.
Planning Commission members raised an inquiry about development of a solar panel site on Zipf Street and whether zoning should remain residential; council members did not change zoning at this meeting and asked the Planning Commission to continue reviewing the inquiry. DPW Supervisor Art Massey said he is working with Pellston schools on an annual project to hang graduating seniors' banners on light poles (the school will pay for the banners and DPW will hang them in late April). Massey said he is obtaining bids from Reith Riley to pave the Boulevard from U.S. 31 to the school and Mill Street from U.S. 31 to Towline and that the village plans to apply for 50/50 state match grants for both projects.
Recreation staff will open restrooms at Pioneer Park the week of April 21, and Cherry Hill Nursery reported it sustained no damage in the ice storm and remains on schedule for flower plantings in late May. Council President Jim Gillett reported that T-Mobile withdrew its proposed cell-tower lease agreement with the village and that AT&T has renewed interest and is drafting a new lease; no lease was approved at the meeting.
The council accepted these updates; no formal votes were recorded on zoning changes or contracts at the April 14 session.
