Pellston council hears reports on fire-hall repairs, park winterization and DDA/TIF draft contract

Pellston — At its Oct. 14, 2024 meeting, the Village of Pellston Council received routine department reports touching on fire-hall repairs, code-enforcement follow-up, park maintenance and a draft DDA/TIF contract.
Fire Chief Randy Bricker said Outdoor Art will repair mold damage at the Fire Hall at an estimated cost of about $9,000; he added that he is still obtaining bids for roof repairs. Bricker reported the Firefighters Association donated $9,000 toward payoff of the First Responder vehicle; the department will pay the remaining $6,000 balance. He also said the annual Fire Department banquet will be held at the Dam Site.
On code enforcement, Bricker said residents have largely complied with notices and that he contacted Emmet County about a person living in a shed; the minutes record a possible $500 fine if the occupant does not vacate.
DPW Supervisor Art Massey said park restrooms have been winterized and summarized recent repairs. He said some fencing will need future replacement coordinated with Pellston Schools, and that holiday lights will be installed in November; he noted current capacity for plug-in items is at maximum.
President Jim Gillett reported the DDA meeting was canceled for lack of a quorum and said he had received a draft contract for a DDA/TIF Plan from NEMCOG. The historical society’s museum is closed for the season; Bricker said the group received roughly $200 in donations. Beautification volunteers plan to return hanging baskets to Cherry Hill Nursery and place next year’s flower order.
